Welcome to
New Media Ministries.org
New Media Ministries.org is primarily committed to bridging the gap between quality biblical scholarship and the lay public. We also use some plain old common sense to tackle a variety of contemporary issues.
The first addition is a series of articles dealing with The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. In his novel he makes numerous assertions about the Bible, about Jesus, about Mary Magdalene and about a marriage between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. I spent the past year doing my own research and have carefully examined and responded to each and every assertion in light of the best scholarship.
The second addition is my weblog at garyburger.blogspot.com. One of the main topics of my posts will be The Da Vinci Code. So if you don't have time to read each of the articles check out the blog posts.
Many people are not familiar with weblogs ("blogs") so I'd like to provide some background. When the Internet was just becoming popular in the early 1990's the term "New Media" was coined. In contrast to the "old" media which refers to a relatively few number of individuals controlling the content they pass to the masses, the new media is controlled by many many people. Instead of a one to many relationship there is now a many to many relatiionship. The world wide web has been a clear example of this. When we began New Media Ministries in 1996 we deliberately chose the name to identify our participation in this new information rich environment.
Recently, a new adaptation of the new media has emerged called web logging. Now anyone with a computer can be their own journalist, gathering information and commenting on it as often as they wish. There are personal bloggers who just want to update friends and relatives on their personal lives. There are business blogs and political blogs and news blogs and even religion blogs. Ever look at the news on TV and think, "I wish they would tell me more?" Enter the "blogshere," that world of bloggers who are often inside experts in their field, and you'll have access to their knowledge and insights. They are knowledgeable and right there, more nimble to respond to what's going on in the world than the news agencies often are.
Conservative bloggers are playing an ever increasing role in informing the public of the truth when the liberal news organizations would rather spin distortions or keep people uninformed. That is why I've started my blog. The liberal news media has very clearly sided with Dan Brown's anti-Christian agenda. The movie is to be released May 19, 2006, and they will be putting everything they've got into promoting it. I want to do what I can to help people know the truth about Jesus and early church history. My blog will specialize on "debunking" The Da Vinci Code. I will address other topics of interest when they come up, as well.
